Kevin McGinn, DVM
Dr. Kevin McGinn is a General Practitioner as well as the founder of Sangaree Animal Hospital.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. McGinn credits his father with instilling in him a love and respect for animals from an early age. As a child, he also learned the value and importance of proper animal care from the family's beloved pets and then later as a volunteer at Lenox Animal Hospital in Atlanta.
After graduating from high school, Dr. McGinn enrolled in Emory University in 1973. Soon after beginning his studies, he transferred to the University of Georgia where he continued his studies, majoring in Animal Science. In 1977 he was accepted into the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and was named the Outstanding Animal Science Student by the University.
In 1981, he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and began practicing. Since then, he has developed a particular professional interest in dermatology and endocrine diseases. He is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, South Carolina Association of Veterinarians, and the Trident Veterinary Medical Association.
Asked what he loves most about his career choice, Dr. McGinn says it is being part of the human/animal bond and helping children and seniors cherish their pets. Dr. McGinn is a pet owner as well, and has three Chihuahuas, a Shih Tzu and two cats. In his spare time, he also enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking and cooking.
Angela Penrod, DVM
Dr. Angela Penrod joined Sangaree Animal Hospital in mid 2013 as a General Practitioner and Associate Veterinarian.
Dr. Penrod is a native of Iowa and spent the first part of her life living in the Quad Cities. She graduated from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. After earning her degree, Dr. Penrod went back home to the Quad Cities where she worked in many different general practices. Over these fifteen years of work, she was often named the practice’s primary emergency contact. This unique factor landed Dr. Penrod a full-time job in 2008 at the Animal Emergency Center of the Quad Cities. Dr. Penrod moved with her family to South Carolina in 2013 where she began working with us at Sangaree Animal Hospital.
Dr. Penrod’s veterinary interests also extend to the areas of internal medicine, endocrine diseases and surgery. Her dedication to animals continues outside of Sangaree. At home, she has five pets including Blanco and Sam, two short hair felines, Princess, a mixed-breed long-haired terrier, Blossom an umbrella cockatoo, and Pixie, a beautiful Chihuahua.
Jessica Holland, DVM
Relocating from Pittsburgh to the Sunshine State, Dr. Jessica Holland joined the team at Sangaree Animal Hospital in November 2016 as an Associate Veterinarian.
Dr. Holland earned her degree in veterinary medicine from Michigan State University in 2009. She was inspired to help animals at a young age and entered the veterinary field as a kennel technician in high school. As an undergraduate, Dr. Holland received her Bachelor of Science in Equine Science from Colorado State University, where she graduated as an honors scholar in 2005.
While earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Holland worked as a veterinary technician and completed internships at equine hospitals where she gained valuable first-hand experience. Following graduation, Dr. Holland practiced as an associate veterinarian at an equine hospital before shifting her focus to small animal medicine. Dr. Holland’s areas of professional interest include surgery, ophthalmology, and cardiology.
Dr. Holland finds pleasure in cooking, baking, and exploring new restaurants. She is also a lover of the great outdoors and enjoys walking and water sports. Since moving to South Carolina, Dr. Holland looks forward to paddle boarding and surfing in her free time. Dr. Holland shares a home with her wife, two dogs, and two cats.
Sean Hanley, DVM
Dr. Sean Hanley joined the medical team at Sangaree Animal Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian in February 2017. Dr. Hanley is passionate about helping his clients nurture the irreplaceable bonds they share with their pets through exceptional patient care and client service.
Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Hanley obtained his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University in 2007. He went on to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine from Iowa State University, where he graduated in 2012. While earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hanley was repeatedly awarded for leadership and clinical competence, and was even Class President from 2009-2012.
Dr. Hanley started working in the veterinary field in 2003 as a Veterinary Technician Assistant at a small-animal practice in Charlotte, NC. This gave Dr. Hanley first-hand experience that inspired him to continue on his path to becoming a high-quality veterinarian. In addition, while earning his bachelor's degree, Dr. Hanley had the unique opportunity to help rescue and rehabilitate sea turtles in Topsail Island, NC.
As soon as Dr. Hanley earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, he took a leap and moved to Alaska to care for pets in Fairbanks and North Pole as an Associate Veterinarian. In 2015, he returned to his home state of North Carolina. Most recently, he cared for pets at Banfield Pet Hospital in Mt Pleasant, SC. A dedicated member of the veterinary community, Dr. Hanley is proud to be part of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Hanley has professional interest in dermatology, soft-tissue surgery, and internal medicine, particularly endocrinopathies.
When Dr. Hanley is not caring for pets at Sangaree Animal Hospital, he is happiest spending his time hunting, fishing, playing the guitar, and cooking. You may also find him enjoying a meal with a beautiful view at Tavern & Table, or kicking back and watching sports. Rooster, a Bluetick Coonhound, is Dr. Hanley's trusted companion and best friend. In fact, hounds are his favorite breed!
